About the Montfort Nicolet Hotel

8 avril 2021

In 1925, the Montfortians opened a novitiate (a place of prayer and learning about the presence of God) and a closed retreat on these premises.  At the time, it was called the house of Sainte-Marie de Nicolet.  At that time, the fathers were about fifty in the building.  From 1979 to 2008, the Montfortians' house changed vocation to become the provincial infirmary of the congregation.  It served as a place of convalescence or preparation for the great passage into eternity.  The Filles de la Sagesse, a religious congregation also founded by the disciples of Saint Louis-Marie-Grignon-de-Montfort, were neighbors of the fathers' monastery.  Their convent has now been transformed into a birthing center.

In 2010, the City of Nicolet expressed the wish that one of the religious buildings in the area be preserved and transformed into a hotel.  The Montfort Fathers were getting on in years and their vast property was becoming heavy with tasks and financial obligations.  They were therefore very interested in the project of Groupe Beaubien and Mr. Denis Beaubien, a seasoned hotelier and businessman from the Trois-Rivières region, to transform their monastery into a 4-star hotel and resort, with priority given to the preservation and development of two heritages, one built and the other natural.

In July 2012, the Montfort Nicolet Hotel, converted, renovated and expanded, finally welcomed its first guests.  The exceptional site, the beauty of the place and its gentle poetry quickly made the hotel a coveted place!  Lovers on weekends, tourists passing through, business clients, conventions, weddings, retreats, conferences and exhibitions follow one another and soon, an expansion is necessary.  In 2014, a 32-room pavilion and a convention center that can accommodate 400 people were added. In 2015, it was the restaurant's turn to double its capacity and the Nordic spa to open, thus completing the service offer of the Montfort Nicolet Hotel.
